Abstract

The legal aid system in Chile has changed significantly in recent years, incorporating a new way to understand the legal aid that the State provides to people. However, this is still an area to perform extensive reform in order to overcome deficiencies related to its efficiency and its consistency with the Constitution. For discussion about how to improve this area of state activity, in this article are two elements that should be considered in this discussion, the right to defense and legal aid compared models, and reflect how they relate to current regulation of legal assistance and to what extent are inserted in proposed amendments
