This paper will examine the institution of reserved seats for indigenous peoples introduced by Constitutional Reform No. 21,298, exploring its suitability for democratic systems based on liberal values and the role played by theories of recognition in its successful assimilation into such systems. To this end, the theoretical framework developed by authors of recognition theories such as Charles Taylor and Axel Honneth will be proposed as a conceptual framework for analyzing the institution of reserved seats for indigenous peoples.
